The Alchemy of Play:
How We Build History.
We don't just manufacture toys; we resurrect the industrial spirit of the Victorian era. Our New York studio serves as a bridge between 19th-century engineering blueprints and modern childhood safety standards.
Explore Our Process
From History Book to Workbench
Archival Research
We start by scouring historical archives for authentic Victorian automata designs. Our team spends months translating complex 1880s blueprints into schematics usable in a modern toy safety context.
Prototyping in Queens
Every gear and piston is tested in our New York studio. We use 3D printing for rapid iteration before moving to final metal casting. Does the steam engine whistle with the right frequency? We check.
Safety Stress-Testing
Historical charm meets rigorous survival. Our prototypes undergo 500 hours of continuous mechanical operation and drop tests to ensure they survive the most enthusiastic young explorers.
Sustainable Steampunk
Why choose between aesthetics and ethics? At Cog & Whistle Toys, we believe heirloom quality shouldn't cost the Earth. We're committed to a circular manufacturing model.
Reclaimed Metals
90% of our ornamental gears are cast from recycled non-toxic brass and industrial copper scraps.
Eco-Certified Wood
We exclusively use FSC-certified walnut and maple for our wooden chassis, finished with beeswax.
Repairable Design
Tired of disposable plastic? Our toys use modular parts. If a spring snaps in 10 years, we'll send a replacement.
Plastic-Free
From the internal cams to the shipping crates, we have eliminated single-use plastics from our line.
Sourcing Standards
Ethical Metal Procurement
We partner with a boutique foundry in the Tri-State area that specializes in handling recycled metal alloys. Each batch is tested for lead and phthalates to exceed the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) requirements. We don't take shortcuts with safety.
The Heirloom Longevity Promise
Our toys are designed for a 50-year lifespan. Unlike the flimsy alternatives found on big-box shelves, Cog & Whistle Toys products use reinforced steel mounting plates. We want your grandchildren to play with these same clockwork birds.
